Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world. It can grow up to 1 meter in 24 hours, reaching its maximum height in about 3 months and absorbs 35% more CO2 than any other plants. It doesn't need the use of any pesticides or fertilizers and only requires rain for watering. Bamboo has already been used to create a wide range of objects: houses, weapons, bicycle (see my post: Grow your own bamboo bike), food, and now also underwear and t-shirts. According to the producers of bamboo-garment: "producing garments from bamboo is way less polluting than the process used to prepare of cotton. And as the bamboo fibre has a round surface it is soft and smooth so perfect for t-shirts and underwear and it is extraordinary water absorbent". I like their first points but I am not sure about promoting (adult) underwear with claiming its exceptional absorbency! But then, I have -thank god- not yet reached the age that this does becomes important! And I have to say, the products look pretty cool!
So now we can all ride -in the pouring rain- on our bamboo bikes to our bamboo houses, with our bamboo dinner in a bamboo box on our luggage carriers and not to worry that our bamboo t-shirt or underwear is getting wet!
