While searching for where to get the most environmental friendly Xmas tree in London I came across this one: a Christmas tree with lights that run on a Brussels Sprout Battery.
Five power cells will hold 200 Brussels sprouts each, amounting to 1,000 of the unloved green vegetable in total. The battery will generate 63 volts, which puts it in the same (low) voltage category as a telephone, making it safe to touch. Meanwhile, a chemical reaction between copper and zinc electrodes within the Brussels sprouts will power the LEDs on the tree.
With most Brussels Sprouts usually ending in the bin as there are only so few people that like them, this may be a solution for the sprouts in this world! I know that 3 out of my 4 kids would be thrilled to donate their share of sprouts to this initiative!
